Rambling Session - Migraines & Wedges (10/24/2024)

This morning I woke up with a sore neck and slight headache. I was kind of hoping I slept on my neck wrong and once I got up and moving I would be okay. Turns out, once I got up and got some lights on to get ready, I woke up with a migraine. Terrible way to start the day, especially because I had some things I wanted to get done in the shop first thing this morning. So it goes… Nothing accomplished this morning and no cigar to talk about.

What I did want to talk about was wedges. I am prepping for Black Friday and something on my list I am hoping I can catch a deal on are some wedges. My bag is currently a Callaway Big Bertha V Series Driver (that I hate - well at least the setup of it - and hope to replace or modify after a driver fitting this winter), a Taylormade RBZ Stage 2 3 wood (that I like but the face is beaten and abused), Mizuno JPX-Ez Forged 4i - GW (I got these new back in 2013ish and still like them for where my game is at at the moment), a heavily used Mizuno JPX 56 Degree, and a Ping putter.

As I mentioned, I want to do something about the driver. I plan to do a proper fitting because it is by far my worst club and always has been, so I am curious about some things I can do to fix that. However, new driver prices are outrageous, so I am hoping I can take the fitting info and either modify mine, or find a decent used driver for now. I would like to find a decent used 3 wood, 7 wood, and driving iron for now as well. With those longer clubs, I am not opposed to going with used clubs given my skill level and I really don’t use my woods much and wouldn’t use a driving iron a ton.

What I do use a ton, as most people do, are my wedges. Particularly my 56 gets TONS of usage as that is my club for nearly everything 100-110 yards and in. I am far from a skilled player, but I do play a 56 like a solid golfer. I can work it both ways, high and low, and can do a lot around the greens with it. Considering that, I would prefer to get some nice, new wedges. I am looking at a 46 degree, 52 degree, and 56 degree.

I have browsed around a lot of brands, both the big names and smaller names. Two that have really appealed to me are Indi and Edel. The issue for me is that I don’t have anywhere local to try out these wedges ahead of purchasing. So it will definitely be a blind purchase, but at this moment I am leaning towards the Indi FLX Super Gap 46 Degree, Indi ATK C Grind 52 Degree, and the Edel V Grind 56 Degree.

I was curious if anyone has any experience with Indi or Edel, or if you have any other wedge makers you think I should check out?

Take care,

-Trevor
