Rambling Session - Killers of the Flower Moon (04/01/2024)

Happy April Fool’s Day.

I also hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend.

My weekend wasn’t too bad as a whole. Saturday was good and yesterday was too busy, so it balances out to “decent”.

This morning I just finished reading Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann this morning. Lately I have really been into the idea of these nonfiction books that detail historic events in a novel-like fashion. I heard of the book from an interview with Jason Isbell discussing his latest album. In that interview he mentioned being an actor in the movie adaptation of the book. The story sounded interesting and at the time I just briefly read a summary regarding the story of the Osage murders.

When I started getting interested in these types of books I opted to order a copy of Killers of the Flower Moon after reading a short recommendation from Ryan Holiday where he mentioned that, unlike the movie (which I hadn’t seen), the book followed the chronology of the story as if you were in the “unknown” party, as opposed to the guilty party. Reading the book from this perspective, and not knowing enough about the story, made it like a super intriguing, suspenseful mystery novel.

The book is an easy read and I would recommend it. Some of it is upsetting as it really depicts aspects of our Nation’s troubled past, so the super empathetic may want to proceed with caution.

As for this morning’s smoke, I went with an IGM 537 Robusto. It was a solid cigar and much like the Rockets vitola, it is a bolder smoke than I often associate with Costa Rican cigars.

Take care,

-Trevor
