Good morning! First off, thank you all for the responses to last week’s blog post giveaway regarding brand vs variety samplers! The winner of the Artista Cigars Buffalo Ten Sampler has been randomly selected and notified!
It is hard to believe that October is almost over… Halloween is almost here and next thing you know it’ll be Thanksgiving then Christmas.
The cool weather is really starting to set in here - at least in the mornings. I do love a brisk, cool morning, although it takes me a little getting used to starting my vehicle early to get it a chance to warm up for my morning drive.
With cooler weather comes a tendency to change my cigar smoking preferences as well. When cooler weather strikes I don’t really change my size preferences much - since I tend to prefer smaller formats anyhow, but I do tend to change my profile preferences.
For most of the year my profile preferences usually lean towards more nuanced, complex, mild to medium strength smokes. When the weather starts to turn, however, I always find myself craving bolder, stronger cigars. A lot of Connecticut Broadleaf. Some of that I think is that when it’s warm out, bolder blends can be a bit much for me because I typically am working on something when I smoke. Some of that preference may also be that here in Pennsylvania, our warmer weather is usually accompanied by increased humidity and the cooler weather tends to be drier, and I find that thicker tobaccos (Broadleaf for example) that are often used in bolder, stronger cigars tend to perform a bit better in drier conditions.
Anyhow, for this week’s blog post giveaway, I was curious how your smoking preferences change through the year. Do you smoke different vitolas in the different seasons? Do you prefer bolder or milder cigars at different times?
Drop a line in the comments with your answers and you’ll be entered in a random drawing for a $10 Gift Card!
Take care,
-Trevor

Being in California, the weather is less of a factor than other parts of the country. Wind is usually the larger concern in my area over temperature and humidity. My cigar choices are made from atmosphere or location. If I’m going to be having multiples, then a progression from mild-fuller bodied sticks is generally laid out.
Also, don’t warm up your car/truck too much in the morning. It adds to fuel dilution and increases wear rates. This is measurable in a used oil analysis. Start, wait for RPM’s to settle out after high idle, then just drive easy until up to temperature.
I live in Florida but have lived in New England for much of my life, and I enjoy cigars when I travel around the world. No matter where I go, I choose cigars based on my palate and what I’m in the mood for. Temperature doesn’t dictate the strength but I don’t like to smoke in the cold. As far as the origin, It’s usually a Nicaraguan puro or close to it.
Good rambling session brotha! My cigars don’t change for the year but I do like a rubusto for my morning smoke and a toro(box press) for evening.
I used to not smoke different sticks seasonally, but now that more limited drops are launching in fall months, I find myself gravitating towards those such as Coffin Nails or the Tatuaje Wolfman.
I love the cooler weather and look forward to my evening cigar in the crisp autumn air. I tend to prefer a more full bodied cigar on the chilly nights to accompany my coffee or cocktail. Robusto remains one of my favorite vitolas but a lancero can also be a great choice, as it allows me time to really appreciate the quiet evenings on the deck next to my fire table.
