Rambling Session - Cold Weather Woes (01/16/2024)

Well we are midway into January and finally in our first real cold snap. Typically by now I feel like we have had a pretty brutally cold week or two, but this winter has been quite mild. I woke up this morning to about 3 or 4 inches of snow when I thought we were only going to get about another inch, for a total of about 2. Nothing quite like cleaning off cars and shuffling snow in 20 degree weather at 4:45 in the morning.

There’s also nothing quite like running into heating problems at the start of the first real cold snap…

We got a heat pump a few months back and it has been a real treat. We were only heated via baseboard electric prior to that and it was quite expensive and not comfortable. The heat pump has quickly made a difference to the electric bill and comfort level of our house. However, last night I noticed some interesting behavior involving the auxiliary heat, the fan, and the outdoor unit. Upon further inspection and after talking with the HVAC company that installed it, it seems there is potentially a problem somewhere in the system - so we are stuck with emergency heat for the time being. Hopefully they can get someone out here today to look into it.

As for cigars, I didn’t smoke any this morning - see snow removal and cold temps.

I did smoke some stuff this weekend, and never posted a Rambling Session that highlighted them. These include a Somm Rioja Toro, of which I posted a review this morning on Whiskey & Whitetails, the Segovias De Esteli Habano Oscuro Robusto, and the Bad Principles Tyne. All were solid smokes. The Bad Principles and Segovias were more up my alley than the Rioja Toro though.

Take care,

-Trevor

That e-heat can quickly make a difference to the electric bill too. Hope you got off that quickly!
