Today I finally got the chance to catch up with my college roommate. He’s partially responsible for my cigar passion because we had started a weekly tradition during the school year before we became roommates. We’d get together on Thursdays and having a dinner of Jack Daniel’s pulled pork and mac n’ cheese, then go shoot pool for a few hours, and then round out the night by sitting on a bench in a busy part of campus and have a cigar, shoot the shit, and people watch.
Once we became roommates, the tradition faded a bit because we would smoke on our balcony whenever we felt like it. Of all the college memories, the Thursday nights certainly stick out.
Nowadays we try to meet up about midway between us a couple times a year for a cigar and lunch, and maybe some golf. In between meetups we’ll connect over FaceTime and have a cigar and talk. That’s what we did today after several recent failed attempts to schedule something.
Though we sometimes we go months between chats or meetups, we never miss a beat. He was the first friend I made up at school and has been my best friend since. It’s always nice to catch up and it’s something we need to make more time for.
I smoked a Stolen Throne Crook of the Crown Toro while we chatted and had a RoMa Craft Cromagnon Fomorian. He always was a fan of Candelas.
How do you stay in touch with old friends who live in different areas? Do you feel you catch-up often enough?
