The Brothers of the Sabre line was born out of Jeremy Casdagli’s fascination with Napoleon’s attempt to conquer Europe. This line pays homage to the generals on all sides and the blends are intended to be representative of the character of whom they honor. This Forrader line was named after Prussia’s Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher and is touted as having “deceptive strength”. Today I am reviewing the Piramide. This large cigar has a medium-dark brown wrapper with a slight rosado hue and some mottling. It is relatively firm and dense. It smells like dark fruit and baking spices. The cold draw is musty and consistent with the scent. First light brings about medium bodied smoke with medium-full flavors of tannic wood, some earthiness, and a touch of citrus. Right off the bat the retrohale is easy going and adds to the citrus with a touch of musty pepper. About an inch in the tannins have settled greatly leaving a woody core with brighter citrus and some toasty notes. These flavors remain primary throughout the first third. Getting into the second third I did a small touch up because I knocked the ash off by accident and the wrapper needed to catch up. The flavors are up to full and the citrus has increased a touch. The tannins are working back in slightly. Hitting halfway the tannins are gone again and have been replaced by some creamy nuttiness. Nearing the band I have to do another small touch up to the wrapper. Coming to an end at just under two hours the tannins are back and there is a bit more pepper spiciness. The performance has remained solid up to the end.
Overall Experience
This vitola of the Forrader was a bit intimidating, however, the tapered head made it rather comfortable to smoke. I likely could have even gotten a bit more burn time from this as well, but it was near the end and I was starting to get hot outside smoking this one. Overall this was a solid cigar. It had plenty of flavor, however, it didn’t have an incredible amount of complexity. If you are a fan of wood and citrus, then this will certainly serve you well. If you like a bit more sweetness, then I would check out the Robusto.
