Cigar Review: Adventura Cigars The Royal Return: King’s Gold Robusto

The Royal Return is one of Adventura Cigars’ most popular lineups. This morning I smoked the King’s Gold Robusto. I have not smoked this blend in this size before, so I am very much looking forward to it. I was originally going to review the other regular production Royal Return Blend - the Queen’s Pearl - however, in the mornings I tend to crave darker, bolder cigars.

This King’s Gold has a medium-dark, rustic looking wrapper, a dense feel, and a lovely tin band. The cigar smells like a wet barn - hay, earth, a touch of ammonia. The cold draw is toasty and has a touch of coffee and dried berries. First light reveals medium-full bodied smoke with full flavors that echo the cold draw - toast, coffee, and dried fruit with the addition of some oily tannins. About an inch in the flavors are about the same, but vary in intensity. The fruit and coffee are forefront, the toast and oily tannins are secondary. The retrohale amplifies the fruity notes and adds some baking spices. The performance has been flawless thus far. Approaching halfway the performance continues to be perfect. The profile is mostly the same, with the addition of a touch of cacao joining. The retrohale remains full of dark fruit and spices. Entering the final third there is a bit of earth and pepper joining the draw. Coming to an end at just over an hour the pepper has ramped up and the strength has peaked around medium. Again, flawless performance.

Overall Experience

Overall this was a very good cigar. The previous King’s Gold I smoked was in the Corona vitola, and I can say that I thought this robusto was better suited for my palate. This cigar had plenty of the bolder, darker flavors that I crave in the mornings, but added such a nice layer of fruitiness and spices. The performance was also flawless throughout. If you like bolder cigars, but don’t want just an earth and pepper bomb, definitely check out this blend.

Have you smoked this one? Let me know your thoughts!
